SPArkles meetings

Come and join us!

We meet on the first Thursday of each month, starting at around 7.05pm for refreshments and a chat with the start the evening activities at 7:30pm. The meetings usually finish by 9.30pm.

We have two types of meetings –

  • 'Speaker' evenings, where a guest speaker will entertain us with a talk or demonstration, and
  • ‘Activity' evenings, where members will share their skills and knowledge and we all get to have a go at something new.

All meetings are free to members. Visitors are always very welcome - your first two visits are free, but we may ask for a small contribution to the cost of consumables on activity nights.

SPArkles meetings 2020

2020 meeting dates: 2nd January, 6th February, 5th March, 2nd April (CANCELLED), 7th May, 4th June, 2nd July, 6th August, 3rd September, 1st October, 5th November and 3rd December.

Go to our 2020 programme page to see what each month has on offer for you to enjoy. There is usually a photography competition at each meeting - see photography page for theme details.

Each year members come together (usually at the July meeting) to celebrate individual members’ achievements in the cookery and craft. This is in the form of a ‘village fete’ with classes and prizes.

Download the 2020 classes and requirements. See our Past Events page for entries and winners in recent fetes.

WFWI and NFWI events

The Worcestershire Federation of WIs (WFWI) arrange many types of events. Look at the WFWI What's On webpage for details. Please speak to the Secretary or Treasurer during the regular meeting or email to be booked onto any event. Note that a deposit or payment in advance may be required. Payment can be made by BACS ensuring that your name and the event are included in the reference.

Denman  is the WI’s centre for learning and offers a wealth of opportunities to learn new skills on day schools and residential courses in the field of cookery, draft and lifestyle.

SPArkles charity fund raising

Each year SPArkles members help fundraise, both to support our own educational activities (guided by the WI constitution) and local charities. We fundraise by running stalls e.g. tombola at local events such as the Droitwich SaltFest.

Our chosen charity for 2020 (to be carried over to 2021) is the DAWN project, a Worcester-based free, confidential and non-judgmental service for women who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.
