As well as SPArkles' broad range of meetings and interest groups, there are a large number of events organised by the National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI) and by the Worcestershire Federation (WFWI).

We also participate in local and national events that share our goals and aims as a WI.


Summer Trip to Oxford

Monday 15th July, 8:30am

Enjoy a quintessentially English day out in beautiful Oxford - you could shop or visit the colleges, take a boat trip or wander round the botanical gardens. Approximate departure time 8:30am with various pick up points across the County; leaving Oxford at 4:30pm.

Beginners sewing workshop: Make an A-line skirt

Saturday 7th or Tuesday 24th September 2019 at WI House

£23 members (bring your own fabric)

Learn to sew a basic A-Line skirt. You will cut out the skirt, and fit to size, insert zip, finish seams and hems. We have very limited availability of sewing machines therefore please bring your own sewing machine. Help can be given to you on the basic operation of your sewing machine.

WI Day at Worcester Races

Monday 16th September 2019

Gates open at 12:20, first race at 2:20pm, last race at 4:50pm. Ticket price includes:

  • Entrance into the County Enclosure, which is the main enclosure including the Grandstand and the parade ring to view the horses before each race.
  • A marquee as a base for the day, specifically for the use of the WI members and their guests, with its own bar
  • Afternoon tea with a cup of tea or coffee included
  • A talk from a tipster before the first race, giving ideas on good horses to follow for the day
  • Free parking in the centre of the racecourse.

£20 members £22 non members.

An informative and entertaining day for all in the WFWI, includes talks from Dr Denise Smythe-Wright from the National Oceanography Centre, and Stuart Hillard, television presenter and quilter. Stalls, competitions, raffle, haberdashery, County Markets, refreshments, and view entries in the WFWI craft and cookery competition.
